Maldives airport taxes
Two government charges apply when you fly out of the Maldives. Airlines collect them in the ticket price, so they're already included in every price on mvfare.

Who pays what
- The Departure Tax applies to international departures from any airport in the Maldives.
- The Airport Development Fee applies to departures from Velana International Airport (Malé), including transit passengers.
- Domestic flights don't carry either charge.
- Children under 2 don't pay the Departure Tax, but the Airport Development Fee still applies.
- Transit passengers don't pay the Departure Tax. Diplomats are exempt from both.
- Dual nationals are charged according to the passport they show at check-in.
Maldivian travellers
Airlines don't always know your nationality when you buy a ticket, so a Maldivian may be charged the foreign rate. If that happens, the airline refunds the difference: contact the airline, or ask us and we'll help you claim it.
